Ultrasound Imaging of Liver Tumors – Current Clinical Applications
نویسندگان
چکیده
Ultrasound exploration (ultrasonography) is a very common diagnostic method. It is part of imaging procedures, without using ionizing radiations but ultrasounds (US) with usual frequencies of 2 5 12 MHz. Ultrasounds cross biological environments and are reflected at the demarcation limit between structures of different consistencies. The current procedure of ultrasound examination called "scanning" is based on the analysis of every plane from a region of interest in the human body. Each plane contains a high number of points with different brightness (within the limit of the gray scale used by the equipment) and their sum makes a defining "echostructure" for each organ. Ultrasound diagnosis is based on changes in tissue density due to pathological changes, resulting in echostructure transformation. Ultrasonography is an anatomical, hemodynamic and functional exploration.

Automated differentiation of benign and malignant liver tumors by Ultrasound Images
Background & Aims: Early detection and reliable differentiation of benign and malignant liver tumors could lead to improved cure rate and costs. Ultrasound image (US) is a convenient medical imaging method for interpreting liver tumors. Visual inspection of ultrasound images sometimes is combined with error and needs biopsy to confirm whether a tumor would be benign or malignant. The aim of thi...
متن کاملDesign, Evaluation and Prototyping of a New Robotic Mechanism for Ultrasound Imaging
This paper presents a new robotic mechanism for ultrasound imaging. The device is placed on a patient's body by an operator, and an ultrasound expert controls the motions of the device to obtain ultrasound images. The paper focuses on the robotic mechanism that performs ultrasound imaging. The design of the mechanism is based on two approaches to produce center of motion for an ultrasound probe...
متن کاملCurrent and Future Clinical Applications of High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) for Pancreatic Cancer.
High-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) is a novel therapeutic modality that permits noninvasive treatment of various benign and malignant solid tumors, including prostatic cancer, uterine fibroids, hepatic tumors, renal tumors, breast cancers, and pancreatic cancers. Several preclinical and clinical studies have investigated the safety and efficacy of HIFU for treating solid tumors, including...
متن کاملMesoporous composite nanoparticles for dual-modality ultrasound/magnetic resonance imaging and synergistic chemo-/thermotherapy against deep tumors
High-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) is a promising and noninvasive treatment for solid tumors, which has been explored for potential clinical applications. However, the clinical applications of HIFU for large and deep tumors such as hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) are severely limited by unsatisfactory imaging guidance, long therapeutic times, and damage to normal tissue around the tumor du...
متن کاملAutomatic Classification of Benign And Malignant Liver Tumors In Ultrasound Images
Introduction: Differentiation of benign and malignant liver tumors is very important for finding appropriate treatment procedure. Human eyes sometime are not able to diagnose the type of liver tumor. Texture analysis is considered as a suitable method to increase the diagnostic power of medical images. In this study texture analysis is employed in order to classification of ben...
